CLOSE-UP CONTEST RULES

To Enter

Any member in good standing may sign up for this competition by simply sending an e-mail or by phoning any one of the officers.  Sign up as early as possible; sign ups will be accepted up to 24 hours before the competition is schedule to begin.

The Venue

The goal is to create an atmosphere as close to a formal close-up environment as possible. Close-up is defined as an act presented in a formal performing area with a table.  If you've visited the Magic Castle, picture its close-up room.  Guests will join together in groups of about 20 and will be seated typically in 2-3 rows arranged in a semicircle. The last row will likely be standing to allow all to view the table.

Rules

  1. Only paid up members of Ring 216 are eligible to perform

  2. An act may be performed without using a table but a table will be present.  Up to two seats will be available for spectators to sit at the table next to the contestant.

  3. Performances must be accomplished between 6 and 10 minutes and should include at least two effects.  A penalty will be assessed if the performance runs under or over the time limits above.

  4. Two performance areas will be set up in different rooms.  Each contestant will perform the same act twice i.e. once in each room.

Judging

The decision of the judges, president and board is FINAL.  Every effort will be made to complete the scoring and determine the winners on the same evening as the competition is held.  In the event that the time allotted does not permit this, winners will be notified by e-mail or phone and the results of the competition will be announced at the next Ring 216 meeting.
