Meets 7:30 PM, the second Wednesday of
each month, at the Yu-Ai Kai Center, 588 N. Fourth St., San Jose, CA.
NOTE: June Meeting is on the THIRD Wednesday and is the AUCTION.
This Month's Meeting
This month we will feature a general performance meeting. This is a
chance to run through something you are working on (and maybe get
feedback), show off something you're really proud of, or just have some
fun. In any event, everyone is encouraged to perform. Some of the people
who have been participating in the “Stars of Magic” Workshops will also
perform effects from those sessions.
Last Month's Meeting
Glen DeBella started our April performances by showing one Ace of
Diamonds and three blank cards, in a Monte type of effect. He put one
blank on the table. The Ace of Diamonds was put in the middle othe f
remaining packet, then it traveled from the packet to the table. He
repeated this a few times, and finally all three cards in his hand
turned to Aces of Diamonds. Then he showed a length of white rope and a
length of red rope. He tied a knot in the white rope, and the knot
jumped to the red rope. He slid the knot off the rope, threw it back on,
and could still slide it along the rope. Ricky Smith started out with
some pick-pocketing humor. Then he had a card selected, and found it by
spelling the vowel thought of by a spectator.. Another card was selected
and was found by the Six of Hearts. Theron Schaub took the four Aces
from a deck, then had three spectators each take a card. The spectators'
cards were scattered in the deck, and the Aces were put partway into the
deck. One of the spectators held the ends of the 4four Aces, and the
spectators' cards were found sandwiched between the Aces. Then Theron
put the four Aces face-up on top of the deck. The Aces turned face down,
one at a time, then turned back face up, one a time.
Joe Caffall had a spectator arrange
strips of digits to form four six-digit numbers. He was able to
instantly add the numbers and get the right total in his head before the
spectator could do it with a calculator.
Doug Eakin took some “fuzzy stuff” from Lauren Emo, a small child
spectator, and turned it into a silver dollar. Then he turned the dollar
into large penny. Calvin Tong caused three silver dollars to vanish one
at a time, then return. Patrick Reed used a spinning disk with a spiral
design to create the optical illusion of his head getting larger, then
smaller. He held one hand up, made a silver coin appear, then another,
and a third. Then they vanished, one at a time. Stan Sieler showed a
deck of alphabet cards, and turned some face up and some face down. Then
he had spectator decide whether small packets would be turned over or
not. He dealt the cards into two piles, had Lauren Emo turn one pile
over. When all the face-down cards were eliminated, the remaining cards
spelled “Lauren.” Vijay Vijaykumar demonstrated his “latest useless
skill” with a deck of cards. He shuffled the deck and had a spectator
pick a number. The chosen number was 13. Vijay flicked exactly 13 cards
off the top of the tabled deck. He dcid it again with different
spectator and a larger number (29). Next, a spectator picked a card from
the deck. Vijay flicked cards off top of deck to reveal the chosen card.
Will Chandler displayed his wand and borrowed a ring. He threaded the
ring onto the rope. He caused the ring to penetrate off the rope. He
threaded it on again, and magically removed it again. He tossed the ring
onto the middle of the rope while holding both ends. With the ring on
the rope, held in his hand, he had a member of the audience tie a knot
over hand. The ring flew from the rope to the wand in his other hand. To
conclude, he had the ring penetrate the middle of his wand, twice. Scott
Emo swallowed a breath mint, choked on it, then used dental floss to
slice through his neck and pull out the mint threaded on the floss.
